How can you REM sleep at a time like this

Late April means it is Final Exam time for people in college.

When I was in college, I had dreams that my dad had and I am sure most students are familiar with. The dream was that it was the end of the semester and I just realized that now that the semester is almost over, there was a class I signed up for but haven't been attending.

Now that I have graduated, the dream is a little bit different. The semester is almost over and I haven't been going to any of my classes.

An Oxymoron takes the motion stairs to get a drink

Here is an oxymoron that I don't think people mention very often: a down escalator. You find them in the mall next to the up descender. if you haven't caught on, the problem is that something that escalates can only take something upward.

I don't think that people complain about this often. I don't remember hearing about a protest when Nashville's first escalator opened at Harvey's department store.

Theoretically, you could have the same complaint about an elevator. At least with an elevator, the same device alternates raising and lowering people, elevating half of the time. With escalators, there's one that always goes up and another that always goes down. at least in Britain, they call an elevator a "lift." I suppose that if they had to have another name for one going down, it would have been called a "drop" and everyone would have preferred taking the stairs.

On an unrelated note, I have thought that at a party, the first drink would be a "Freshment" and each subsequent drink would then be a "Refreshment." However, one of my friends contends that the very first time a newborn baby has something to drink, that could be a freshment, but every time in their life afterwards would be a refreshment.

I give up. I'll save the arguments for the linguists.

Axiom of patience

Seven Wonders of the goofy American tourist world

Roadside America - Guide to Uniquely Odd Tourist Attractions

Thanks to the people at Roadside America, and specifically their 1992 book, they offer these 7 places as the Seven Wonders of the Roadside America world, for offbeat tourist destinations (such as the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota, or somesuch)

1) Aquarena Springs in San Marcos, TX
2) Twitty City in Hendersonville, TN - the home of Conway Twitty. However, since his death, is now Trinity Broadcasting Network headquarters (this list was compiled a year before his death)
3) South of the Border in Dillon, SC - See far away from the observation sombrero or play "the Golf of Mexico"
4) The World of Coca-Cola Pavilion in Atlanta, GA, the only one of the seven I have been to. Where else in America can you sample Beverly, Lychee Mello or Mezzo Mix?
5) Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Mo - where you can see the lifesize reproductions of the figurines.
6) House on the Rock in Spring Green, Wi - its what you get if you build a house on top of 60' high sandstone, then keep adding for the rest of your life. It is now a 200 acre attraction.
7) Wall Drug in Wall, SD - started as a small drug store but soon became famous for offering to give free water, plus their famous billboards which used to appear in all 50 states.

After this, Roadside America also has the Boring Tour of the dullest tourist stops:
Soup Tureen Museum in Camden, NJ
Cranberry World! (Note to Steena - You know what state this is in)
Bethel Park Gas Meter Shop in Bethel Park, PA
Home of the Father of Rural Free Delivery in Thompson, GA
Shuffleboard Hall of Fame in St. Petersburg, FL
Illinois Historical Water Museum in Peoria, IL
Accounting Hall of Fame in Columbus, OH
Insurance Hall of Fame
Agricultural Drainage Hall of Fame, still in Columbus
World's Largest Replica Load of Logs
International Credit Union Center in Madison, Wi
International Checkers Hall of Fame in Petal, MS
World's Oldest Rock in Granite Falls, NM
Maytag Washer Exhibit in Newton, IA
Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in Dodge City, KS
Gadsden Purchase Plaza in Mesilla, NM
First Home in Idaho with Electric Lights in Pocatello, ID
Hall of Mosses at the Olympic National Park in WA.

I hope that in some way I didn't influence your next vacation.
