Roadside America - Guide to Uniquely Odd Tourist AttractionsThanks to the people at Roadside America, and specifically their 1992 book, they offer these 7 places as the Seven Wonders of the Roadside America world, for offbeat tourist destinations (such as the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota, or somesuch)
1)
Aquarena Springs in San Marcos, TX2)
Twitty City in Hendersonville, TN - the home of Conway Twitty. However, since his death, is now
Trinity Broadcasting Network headquarters (this list was compiled a year before his death)
3)
South of the Border in Dillon, SC - See far away from the observation sombrero or play "the Golf of Mexico"
4)
The World of Coca-Cola Pavilion in Atlanta, GA, the only one of the seven I have been to. Where else in America can you sample Beverly, Lychee Mello or Mezzo Mix?
5)
Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Mo - where you can see the lifesize reproductions of the figurines.
6)
House on the Rock in Spring Green, Wi - its what you get if you build a house on top of 60' high sandstone, then keep adding for the rest of your life. It is now a 200 acre attraction.
7)
Wall Drug in Wall, SD - started as a small drug store but soon became famous for offering to give free water, plus their famous billboards which used to appear in all 50 states.
After this, Roadside America also has the Boring Tour of the dullest tourist stops:
